General Workshop Overview

The workshop was a community-based effort to establish a long-term vision for land use, transportation, and urban design to guide the neighborhood and the City of Atlanta in reviewing developments, programming transportation investments, and determining neighborhood character. It will bring neighborhood stakeholders together to share their thoughts and ideas in an open, inclusive process that will result in a neighborhood-based guide for its future. The effort will support current land use policies to protect Loring Heights’ single-family heart from commercial and multifamily encroachment, while discussing the appropriateness of new development into commercial, industrial, multifamily, and vacant properties at the neighborhood’s edges. Transportation and urban design efforts will strive to ensure that the entire neighborhood’s quality-of-life is protected and enhanced as new development occurs.

Recommendations emerging from the workshop will guide the neighborhood in review rezoning and land use changes within the neighborhood. Recommendations for specific projects will be forwarded to the City of Atlanta, MARTA, or other applicable agencies for funding consideration.
